Valdez cohort wraps up a successful semester

UAA's adjunct instructor George Keeney is proud of the 17 Valdez high school students who volunteered to complete MyPI-Alaska in their community during the fall 2019 semester. Besides completing the CERT basic training curriculum, each student developed home crisis kits and communications plans for their families and 6 other families! The cohort students heard from experts in emergency career fields, including Police Officer Aaron Baczuk (pictured), State emergency manager Dan Belanger, public health nurse Terri Lynch, and EMT Sarah Carter from the local avalanche center.

According to Keeney, "Having been the lead instructor here in Valdez, I know the students will be the ones to come to the aid of those in need during the worst time in a disaster. I believe these students have succeeded!"
